Data Sync helps the Visually Impaired Consumer
| Consider for a moment you are a visually impaired consumer. Many of the consumer products typically found in home cupboards have similar shapes - "is it a can of hairspray or aerosol paint?" Clearly selecting the right can is both a safety and quality of life issue. En-Vision America provides a "talking barcode scanner" that addresses this need. The i.d. mate OMNI talking barcode scanner allows visually impaired consumers to identify products in their home. For the past ten years En-Vision America has been manually collecting data on over 2 million GTIN's. Recently they implemented data sync to automate the maintenance of this database. Knowing the effort involved in collecting and maintaining these two million UPC's, En-Vision American was interested in how Data Synchronization could help them streamline and improve the completeness and quality of information that they provide in the device. |
In past En-Vision America had made some inquiries regarding data sync but was discouraged by the effort and cost involved that is until their path crossed with Aligntrac at a GS1 standards meeting. Aligntrac worked with En-Vision America to explain the state of GDSN, how to join 1SYNC and how Sync/PDI for Retailers could be an economical solution. Being a small company, En-Vision America's focus is on their product and customers they were looking for a way to get the data without having to "learn GDSN". Sync/PDI for Retailer's hosted model fit the bill. To vendors publishing their data, En-Vision America looks like a big demand-side partner who has fully implemented GDSN publications are promptly acknowledged by GDSN Confirmation messages indicating a "synchronized status".
En-Vision America is now reaching out to the vendor community to publish product data to them so that they can deliver the benefits of data sync to their visually impaired consumers. To learn more visit www.aligntrac.com/envision.
